Community Events & Celebrations
El Colegio is the cornerstone of a larger cultural and education center that is an accessible gathering place for the Latino and other communities. Our building is designed to encompass not only the school but also to incorporate space to be used by the community for ongoing arts and cultural programs. An annual celebration widely attended by the community is Day of the Dead.
Day of the Dead
On or near November 1 of each year, El Colegio collaborates with the Mercado Central to celebrate Day of the Dead with students, families and the community. The event take place at the Mercado Central and El Colegio and includes an exhibit of ofrendas (alters) created by students, artists and community members, mask making, a procession, food, music, Aztec dancers, and an all-night vigil.
